Bringing Hope for a Better Tomorrow!

THE HOPE CENTER AFTERNOON CLASSES ARE IN SESSION!
JOIN US 5PM - 8PM TUESDAYS AND FOR GED PREPARATION COURSES,
COMPUTER CLASS, AND JOB ADVISING

The HOPE Center is organized to serve adults, youth and all who have need in the Brownsville Community and the surrounding area. The focus is to access the needs, develop a specific plan, and assist the individual or family to fruition. One of the unique things about The HOPE Center is that it treats the entire family unit. It is designed to work with the youth, who might have problems in-school or out of school, while at the same time working with the youth's family to assist in making the family unit functional. It does this by addressing the mind, body and spirit of each individual in the family unit. The curriculum addresses the individual in need, while working with other family members, through advising, to make the family a cohesive and functional unit of society.

Assistance at The HOPE Center can come in the form of the GED Program, the Basic Computer Program or the academic course such as Reading, Math or History. In addition, The HOPE Center offers courses in computer such as MS Excel or MS Word for those who have the need. There are other programs, such as Bread of Life, The HOPE Clothes Closet, Job Training and Assistance, Assistance with Food Stamps & Medicaid, Advising, and other services to assist individuals and families. If you, or someone you know, could benefit from these services, please contact The HOPE Center via e-mail Sandy at spaoletti@brownsvilleag.org or call (850) 430-2100 Ext. 296 for further information.

About Us

Chairman of the Board: Dr. Evon Horton

The HOPE Center is at the epi-center of making a significant impact on the desperate need in the Brownsville Community. I actually heard some County officials say they’d actually given up all hope on Brownsville. Under the leadership of Dick Messmer, and a team of volunteers the HOPE Center is now making a dent in the need in this community.

I appreciate all the effort and hard work everyone is making to bring about significant change in this needy area of the Gulf Coast!

Yours for bringing Hope!
Dr. Evon Horton,
Chairman of the Board of Directors

Director: Richard Messmer

Hi! My name is Richard Messmer. I live in Pensacola, Florida and have three children and seven grandchildren. My wife and I have spent the best part of the last forty years working in the field of education, specifically Special Education. Both of us have chosen this field to spend our waking hours and hopefully make a difference to some youngsters. My wife is now retired and volunteers at The HOPE Center.

I have been a teacher, Coordinator of the Emotionally Handicapped, Principal, and on Administrative Staff for various school districts. Most of my time has been spent in Public Education. I operate my own consulting firm in the private sector. I have operated the business for the past eight years and work with Juvenile Justice Centers to assist them in appropriate interventions for juveniles and families in crisis.

I retired as a Principal but could not resist the call to return to the classroom. I retired again after teaching for thirteen years in Mobile, Alabama. I also work with my own business and teach at University of Phoenix Online.

I am now advising The HOPE Center and working with the families, adult individuals and the youth from Brownsville who need assistance.

Success Stories

  • The HOPE Center has a new office located within the office complex of the Brownsville Assembly of God Administrative Offices. According to Sandy Paoletti the office is located in an area where the HOPE Center can function without disturbing others.
  • The HOPE Center's Hope Closet is open for students and their families. If you know of someone who is in need of clothing please call the office at 850-430-2100 ext 296 and ask for an appointment to open the Hope Closet for those in need.
  • The HOPE Center's evening school now offers couses in FCAT and How to Take the FCAT. Currently all instructors have been certified and are experts in their field of offering. Therefore if you need assistance with Language Arts, Math or getting a job please sign up for one or all of our courses.
  • Bread of Life ministry at The HOPE Center found Darlene. Darlene was hungry, both physically and for the Lord. Darlene ate dinner with the Bread of Life outreach team and heard about Jesus at the Bread of Life Bible Study. Soon after, Darlene wrote Roy while he was in jail. The letter expressed how she found the Lord and how much she wanted to go to church with Roy. Upon being released from jail in spring, 2008, Roy and Darlene were reunited, with their new found faith in the Lord, and began attending Brownsville Assembly of God, and the couple was baptized on Easter Sunday, 2008. “God completely turned our lives around!” exclaimed Roy. Now, if you visit Bread of Life, The HOPE Center, or Brownsville Assembly, you will most likely find Roy assisting leaders and pastors. “Now, I want to give back and help people like people have helped me and my wife move forward in God and in life,” shared Roy. Now the couple serves at Bread of Life ministry on Saturdays together and encourage others who are where they were, just over a year ago. Roy volunteers at The HOPE Center and at Brownsville Assembly regularly and he is now enrolled in the OJT Vocational Program at The HOPE Center.
